Frequently Asked Questions
The task of delivering phonebooks and directories sometimes meets with problems, especially where there doesn't seem to be a clearly defined solution. Some of these questions form the basis of this page, and will hopefully give enough guidance to those common situations that from time-to-time arise.
Answers to Common Questions
- Question: How many people do we need to help?
- Answer: The more people involved the quicker and easier the work becomes. We suggest you work with at least three teams of three people per vehicle with one driver and two runners. In the case of using younger helpers it is strongly suggested that you have an adult taking the books across the roads so that the younger helpers do not have to risk crossing the road. Do not have youth under the age of 12 crossing roads. Remember that your safety is of paramount importance!
- Question: How many books can we deliver in a day?
- Answer: Our professional crews of two people will deliver in an eight hour day in excess of 1000 books. You can deliver as much as you feel like doing in that day remembering you only get paid for what you deliver so the more you deliver the bigger the pay.
- Question: What do I do if people want more than one book?
- Answer: The customer is to be given any quantity they require as long as adequate records of how many you have them left are kept. A good way to do this is obtain a business card from the customer and write how many you have left them on the card.
- Question: What do we do at Units, Apartments and Flats?
- Answer: These are all to be regarded as separate delivery points and should be left at each separate door and not at the letterboxes (except in the case of secured units).
- Question: What do we do if there is a dog in the yard or we can't get in to deliver to the front door?
- Answer: Leave the book in a plastic bag at the letterbox. Do not leave the book(s) in a place that may cause a hazard for tripping, or prevent vehicles from moving freely. In order to assess this, ask yourself the question, “Was it forseeable...” – was it forseeable that leaving items in the doorway at the bottom of a stairwell might mean that somebody will trip over it...
- Question: What length of time are we allowed to deliver the books?
- Answer: In most instances we allow you 10 days to finish your allocated area(s) which includes two weekends with extensions to be negotiated for inclement weather.
