At National Directory Distribution we understand that we all need to do our part to help reduce our impact on the Environment. That is why we’ve developed this policy, and along with the ‘statement of intent’, it is our way of being responding to the effects that businesses like ours are having on our environment. We are leaders in our class, and intend to extend this leadership in to all areas of our business.

At National Directory Distribution, we work in close adherence to the Sensis guidelines for the correct handling of our products. As a company that deals in a product that on a yearly basis produces a large amount of material that can be turned to a recyclable resource, we are committed to an effective implementation of a responsible recycling programme. National Directory Distribution is actively promoting the reduction of our carbon footprint on the Environment.

Methods & Solutions

National Directory Distribution has many methods and solutions by which this is achieved:

People Power

One of the best ways we reduce our impact on the environment is through You; by having people from Sporting clubs, Community groups, Help centres, Church groups, Scouts, Guides, Fundraising institutions, Lions, Rotary, etc., You have a direct role to play in the reduction of Greenhouse Emissions.

By working with the community, National Directory Distribution helps you raise necessary funds to help those people in need, lessening the burden on the Federal Government and promoting an economically sustainable future for all.

By having people out-and-about walking, getting fit, developing community spirit and relationships, providing a service to the community, People Power helps reduce Greenhouse Emissions.

Book Recycle

National Directory Distribution works closely with all councils and recycling centers to convert as many old books back to an environmentally renewable recycled pulp resource.

A total of 72% of all old directories (or 29,907 tonnes) were recycled by the Australian Community in the 2006 calendar year, and a further 23% (9,534 tonnes) were reused as a second directory or for another use such as propping up computer monitors or packing material. The overall directory waste diversion rate was 95%, with only 5% of households and businesses disposing of their old directories in the garbage.

The highest directory recycling rate was in Victoria with 77% overall, followed closely by NSW with 76%. Sydney was the metropolitan area with the highest recycling rate with an impressive 81%, ollowed very closely by Melbourne with 80%. Tasmanians are the highest re-users of old directories, reusing 37%, followed by ACT with 35% and Queensland with 31%. NDD works closely with all councils and recycling centers to convert as many old books back to an environmentally renewable recycled pulp resource.

Transport

Freight of directories to distribution centers is handled by Linfox Australia, which works to ensure minimal environmental impact through efficient loading and routing. Directories are then distributed to individual properties by one of three distribution contractors. Transport and distribution suppliers are required to meet Environmental, Health and Safety criteria, and are regularly audited by Sensis.

National Directory Distribution seeks to minimize the number of times our stock is transported or moved from point to point by ensuring timely delivery and delivery optimisation, both to our warehouse and to our service agents.

Green Office Program

Through our Green office program, all National Directory Distribution employees are encouraged to get involved in reducing the environmental impacts of our office operations through the themes of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Turn-off’. Regular education and affirmation is undertaken through internal communications to ensure we do our part.

NDD and You - working towards an environmentally sustainable future.
